Haitain Educational Aid and Resources (HEAR)

After a very harsh winter here in Portland, Spring Break is quickly approaching.

Marie-Michele, our Haitain student at Concordia University, has had a little challenge adjusting to the weather. But we are sure she will enjoy the spring once it is in full bloom.

Concordia's student body did a wonderful job this fall in welcoming Marie and also in their relief effort campaign for Haiti in the aftermath of hurricane Matthew. 

During our March mission trip to Haiti we will be distributing many of those donations to families in the hardest hit areas of Haiti. 

Marie is doing very well in her M.Ed. classes and has also taken on teaches Spanish to adults in a locale school. We couldn't keep her out of the classroom. She is so driven to give back to the community.

This is one of the reasons your donations are so important to us. They allow students like Marie to focus of their own schooling and also using their gifts and talents to serve others without the worry of have to work too many hours to pay the rent, buy food and supplies.

Please consider adding H.E.A.R. to your charitable donations in 2017, so that others might follow in Marie's footsteps.

H.E.A.R. has two full tuirion scholarships at Concordia, but the fill gap funding for only one student to attend. The gap is typically $5,000-$7,000 per year and is vital for young Haitians trying to accept the scholarship and get their student visas to accept this educational opportunity.

Happy New Year!

This is something we hear very regularly at this time of year. Happy New Year! But what does it mean to wish someone a Happy New Year? I wish you a better life? I wish you a more comfortable life? I wish you a more fulfilled life?

This wishes can come true when we also take a step of two to help them happen. That is why HEAR exists. To give a helping hand in creating a better, more comfortable and fulfilled life for our students, their families and those who lives they will impact when they return to Haiti.

Our current student at Concordia University in Portland has just completed her third module with flying colors.

Marie-Michele is also working on campus in food services and recently was asked to help in a classroom teaching Spanish at a local school. She is a very talented young woman and is also very motivated to continue to improve herself and those around her.

Last week she approached me with a financial need. It is just what HEAR is all about. She needed funds for text books and rent and the Christmas break has kept her from working at the school. Ergo, no paycheck for this month. It was a simple request for $500. Even the way if was requested gave testimony to the type of young lady Mari is. She simple asked for a short term loan. HEAR doesn't loan money, we give it freely. But in order to do this we need your help.

Your gift of $10, $20, $50, etc. gives us the opportunity to help our students when the need arises. And we know that the needs will continue to arise as we strive to aid these students in their pursuit of knowledge and a Happy New Year!
