KISARA PKBI Bali's "Lovely Lunch"

By Ayu Ratna | Project Leader

In the hustle and bustle of a demanding youth world, sometimes we only need one thing: space to be heard without judgment.

That is exactly what was created at the KISARA PKBI Bali space on February 16, 2026. KISARA, a youth program that has been a loyal companion to Bali’s young people since 1994, recently held its signature routine activity, Lovely Lunch. But this time, there was a special twist. With the theme “Fulfilling our Needs: Zine Journaling and Mindful Eating,” the event was more than just a casual hangout—it was a ritual of "coming home" to oneself.

The indoor session invited participants to temporarily set aside their gadgets and the noise of social media. The journey began with a grounding session, where participants were encouraged to be fully present in the moment, identify their current emotions, and understand their own self-boundaries.

One of the most captivating segments was Zine Journaling. Here, feelings that are often hard to put into words were poured out through paper cutouts and creative writing. These zines served as a medium for honest expression—a visual journal capturing the heart’s contents without the fear of being labeled "weird" or "too much."

The event reached its peak with a Mindful Eating session. In a serene atmosphere, participants were invited to enjoy their lunch with full awareness, noticing the texture, the aroma, and feeling a sense of gratitude for the food served. It was a gentle reminder of a frequently forgotten self-care practice: that nurturing our mental health can start with how we appreciate what we eat.

Why do these inclusive spaces matter?

Lovely Lunch serves as a vital response to mental health vulnerabilities among teenagers. KISARA remains committed to providing a platform that is:

  • Safe and Stigma-Free: A place where every story is valued.
  • Supportive: Strengthening peer support so that young people can recognize signs of vulnerability in themselves and those around them.
  • Educative: Promoting a holistic understanding of Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) through a youth-friendly approach.

Through heart-felt sharing sessions, Lovely Lunch proves that when young people are given the right space, they don’t just grow—they empower one another.

After all, fulfilling our needs isn't just about the physical; it’s about giving the soul room to breathe. See you at the next Lovely Lunch!
