The COVID-19 pandemic has been a challenge for all the people around the world and its consequences are seen throughout a series of issues. Nevertheless, people living below the poverty line are now more vulnerable than ever, facing the devastating impact of this pandemic. In 2022, Emfasis continues to implement relief programs in order to address the needs of people in homelessness, supporting them through humanitarian aid, counselling and meeting their different individual needs.

Annually Emfasis supports 3,192 individuals with more than 20 relief programs, while the hours of volunteer work amount to 3,725. During the last 3 months Emfasis has been able to provide basic necessities, psychological support and perform 53 specially designed shifts in the Attica region. Donors have raised €2,598 through the platform of GlobalGiving, getting a step closer to the goal of €3,253. As reported in the previous report, this amount has contributed towards support provided to people in direct need of survival items, especially during the Christmas period as well as the storm Elpis that hit Attica the past winter.

At this moment, Emfasis is preparing for the summer period, when support programs and special emergency relief shifts will take place to aid homeless people in the region of Attica against the upcoming heatwaves. Further, due to the unprecedented energy crisis and the rising cost of living, our Streetwork teams encounter increasing numbers of homeless people or people on the verge of eviction, who are in desperate need of support.

With the threat of the sixth wave of COVID-19 lingering and the consequences of the ongoing situation in place, Emfasis will continue to aid people in a state of street or impending homelessness, especially in such precarious conditions.

With your support, our dedicated teams of certified volunteers will keep on their efforts to impact positively the quality of life of thousands of people, conducting their mission with the utmost respect and discretion for the vulnerable.

PROJECT UPDATE Greek Homeless Support in COVID-19
By Emfasis - Volunteer

The COVID-19 pandemic has been a challenge for all the people around the world and its consequences are seen throughout a series of issues. Nevertheless, people living below the poverty line are now more vulnerable than ever, facing the devastating impact of this pandemic. Emfasis continues to implement relief programs in order to address the needs of people in homelessness, supporting them through humanitarian aid, counseling and meeting their different individual needs.

With 2 mobile support units, Emfasis has been able to provide basic necessities, psychological support and perform specially designed shifts in 40 different municipalities/areas in the Attica region. Donors have raised €1,998 through the platform of GlobalGiving, getting a step closer to the goal of €3,253. This amount has contributed towards support provided to more than 6500 individuals, 300 families. The distributions included 1022 hygiene items, 5481 first aid items and 2000 survival kits. In addition, through this fund, Emfasis plans to provide temporary safe housing for individuals with critical health conditions.

With the threat of a new wave of COVID-19 lingering, Emfasis will continue to aid people in a state of street or impending homelessness, especially in such precarious conditions.

The COVID-19 pandemic sowed catastrophe into the daily lives of people around the world, but perhaps none felt its consequences more acutely than those experiencing homelessness in its various forms. In the face of the crisis, Emfasis has identified the critical needs among its beneficiaries and has provided vital relief to those in our community who are exposed and marginalized, living in non-permanent or unsafe places.

With the financial support of 13 generous donors and Emfasis’ tireless volunteers, we have provided 1000's of basic necessities with contactless deliveries, psychosocial services through the 2 mobile support units & streetwork/outreach teams, a hotline number for immediate support and recording of emergency lockdown needs, as well as vital information leaflets. The geographical coverage included the prefecture of Attica and 18 different municipalities.

Having given €1,269, donors to this fund have already raised a third of the fund’s €3,253 goal after only three months. In the coming months, as Emfasis works to raise the remaining €1,984 toward the fund’s goal, we will continue to provide survival kits including masks, gloves, toothpaste, baby wipes, soap, non-perishable food, water, juice, snacks, blankets, sleeping bags, clothing, shoes, and books. In addition, through this fund, Emfasis plans to provide temporary housing for individuals with critical health conditions.

While the pandemic seems to wane in some regards, its threat still remains significant to the most vulnerable among us. With your support, Emfasis will continue to offer our beneficiaries dignified solutions, in this time when human contact is so rare and precious. Visit our website
