Because of you, students across Memphis are not just setting goals—they are achieving them.
In December, Goal Card scholars closed out the semester strong. Our first quarter Redemptions were a success, celebrating students who met academic, attendance, behavior, and financial literacy milestones. At Booker T. Washington High School, seniors participated in “Senior Ready Day,” where they navigated real-life financial scenarios through the interactive “On My Own” simulation—making decisions about housing, transportation, childcare, and budgeting within a set income. They also experienced HBCU culture firsthand during a college visit to LeMoyne-Owen College, expanding their vision for what’s possible after graduation. These moments transform abstract lessons about money and responsibility into lived experiences that shape futures.
In January, we launched into the new year by reinforcing one of the most powerful components of our program: mentorship. During National Mentoring Month, we celebrated the adult volunteers who serve as accountability partners, encouraging students to strive for excellence in academics, conduct, and attendance. Students also tackled a hands-on “Holiday Spending Challenge,” where they identified their money personalities and worked in teams to budget for a family of four—learning collaboration, critical thinking, and intentional spending.
And then there are the individual stories—the students who remind us why this work matters. Scholars like Trentin, Kayla, D’Asia, Amiyah, Gabriel, and J’Nhiya were recognized as Goal Setters of the Month for their commitment to excellence and their dreams of becoming nurses, architects, doctors, programmers, and more. These are not just newsletter highlights; they are young people building habits of discipline, vision, and financial confidence that will serve them for a lifetime.
For over 20 years, Goal Card has focused not only on financial literacy, but on the whole child—equipping students with the tools, incentives, and mentorship they need to succeed. Your generosity makes every Redemption celebration, every financial simulation, every college visit, and every mentoring conversation possible. Because of you, students are learning how to set goals, manage money, and envision brighter futures.
Thank you for believing in them. We look forward to continuing this journey together.
