Dear Go Girl Ghana supporter!

It has been a very busy few months. As an organisation we do more than just start the computer center ans so we will update you on all things GGG to give you a feel of all the work we do.

We have first and foremost found a wonderful space which is big enough to be an all in one space. So this is our office, our sewing class space, our library, our meeting space for girls and their wards but as you will all understand, it is our Go Girl Digital space too.

The computers have been aquired, the desks and tables have been arranged and on their way to Ghana as we speal.  We are working against a 1st of September opening. We are super excited that this is really happening now!

But what else has been happening? We have done weekly meetings with the girls to better understand the root issues behind the school drop outs and other educational issues and have created plans to best make a change with these girls. These groups are divided in school girls and so called community girls in both of our active communities. We have done home visits to all of our girls' families to have a better understanding of the problems surrounding these communities and the girls as part of that. All these girls will have access to the computer lessons!

We hosted a dinner with about 25 of the girls to come together as a group and just had fun, and fun it was :)

Additionally, we have created Mother Clubs in both communities to raise awareness and find the girls who have dropped out of school and off the radar after getting pregnant or other reasons. We are working with those girls to see how we can get them back into school.

We have hosted a virtual Learn and share SALT visit in June 2021, with 24 participants from 12 countries which focussed on the local concerns around teen pregnancy, the common ground we could find with the other countries and how we can learn from each other.

The team has grown with 4 more facilitator volunteers divided over the 2 communities and will continue to grow in the next period. The lead facilitator is being trained online on SALT-CLCP.

Last but not least, we have managed to bring 7 girls back to school! Huge congratulations to the GGG team and the girls wards on making this happen.

So no rest for us and with your continued support, we will keep on working to improve girls education in the Central Region in Ghana.

All the best,

Leonie
