Dear Friend,
As we near the end of the 2013-14 school year, GlobeMed at WashU is not slowing down! We have entered our final fundraising push for our partners at Uganda Development and Health Associates (UDHA), and in addition to several exciting campaigns—such as the upcoming “Frozen Chocolate-Covered Banana Sale” at Thurtene Carnival and the second annual “Serve-a-thon”—we have kicked off the most important fundraiser of the year, our Individual Giving Campaign. We have committed to raise $13,200 this year for the UDHA projects we support, and we have over $8,500 to raise before the end of April. We are extremely grateful for your past support, and we would not be able to do the work we do without it. If you would like to support us again this year as we fight to help our partners make real differences in their communities, please find out how on our new website:http://washu9.wix.com/globemedatwashu.
Alongside all the fundraising, we’ve been keeping ourselves quite busy with awareness and education events. GlobeMed’s 4th Annual Public Health Banquet took place on February 28th, and we are excited to say that it was a big hit! We invited about 12 public health professionals and 60 undergraduates to discuss their work and share ideas with each other over dinner and a wonderful lecture on various models for public health by Dr. Lora Ianotti. GlobeMed’s largest annual network-wide event—the GlobeMed Global Health Summit—is also just around the corner. GlobeMed at WashU is excited to announce that 12 of our staff members have been selected to serve as delegates at the three-day conference hosted by GlobeMed National Office in Evanston, IL.
Our partners at UDHA have made great strides since our last update as well. Students continue to utilize the UDHA Health Question Boxes, where they can write to UDHA with questions and receive hand-delivered answers within the month. UDHA has also developed and strengthened its peer educator network, which serves five primary school and five secondary schools in Iganga. The peer educators provide a safe knowledge source for students, and they have taken it upon themselves to install UDHA health clubs at each of theirs schools! Their innovation and initiative inspires us, and we hope you appreciate their work as well.
Until our next update, you can keep up with us through our various web and social media pages, all of which can be found through our new website: http://washu9.wix.com/globemedatwashu. Thank you for your continued interest and support.
In Solidarity,
The Staff Members of GlobeMed at Washington University in St. Louis
