GlobeMed at WashU has had quite the semester! From hosting our first-annual Hilltop Conference on the theme of Healthcare: Access, Boundaries and Ethics for GlobeMed members around the country to welcoming fourteen new staff members to our team and introducing exciting new fundraising campaigns, we’ve certainly kept busy!
Our fundraising campaigns this semester included a sale of gift baskets filled with snacks we consider to be St. Louis classics that we delivered to students at Washington University during finals period, a successful pie sale around Thanksgiving led by our new members, an auction of a Kaplan test prep course, and more! Altogether we have raised just over $4,000 so far, which keeps us on track towards raising the money that we have committed to our partner, Uganda Development and Health Associates (UDHA).
UDHA has big plans for the money we raise this year. It will enable them to employ a nurse and a district nutritionist at the Naigobya health center, and to purchase a microscope, autoclave, and centrifuge for the laboratory. These additions will significantly help UDHA work with the community to improve health, and we are so grateful to everyone who is making this possible. We ask for your continued support as we still have just over $9,100 left to raise to fulfill our commitment to funding UDHA's budget.
To achieve this goal, we have planned a busy spring semester, filled with campaigns that we will conduct on our campus at WashU. We will be selling heart-themed cupcakes on Valentine’s Day and our famous chocolate-covered frozen bananas at the on-campus carnival in April. A group of our members have also begun a rigorous training schedule for the 2014 Go! St. Louis Marathon, a commitment for which we hope to receive pledges from our donors in order to raise funds for UDHA. Lastly, a large portion of our fundraising every spring comes from the generous donations of our supportive network of donors, and this year again, we need your help! Please keep GlobeMed at WashU in mind in the coming months. Peace, love, and Happy New Year!
In Solidarity,
GlobeMed at WashU
