Summary

Global Digital City (GDC) links digitalization with attributes of each specific city in Albania, Albanian speaking communities. Prevents "brain drain" & develops local communities in the Balkans: 1) A 3-day event with local, national & international speakers, workshop sessions, training, information sessions & pitching for start-ups; 2) Launching 50 employment/training opportunities, B2B events with 50 businesses; 3) Social Event where youth can promote their communities globally.

Challenge

Employment is an ongoing challenge for Albania, where there is a verified gap between the education curricula and business requirements for employability skills. Moreover, digitalization in terms of skills and applicability is lacking at times for shortage of resources or information. Albania has a population of 25.5% of NEET (Not in Education Employment or Training, age 15-24), where the majority of the population is 19-29 years old.

Solution

GDC will organize 6 events in the form of Digital Weekends (online and offline) in a course of 12 months. The next destination is still to be decided between Durres, Prishtine, Shkoder, or Gjirokaster. Doing events in different cities of Albania and Albanian speaking communities will help create opportunities for youth in their communities. The potential of other communities and cities is left untapped resulting in major immigration and economic challenges.

Long-Term Impact

Possible investments: We aim to create at least 6 meeting of minds between investors and local initiatives in order to result in at least 1 investment in every Digital Weekend. Promotion & support for Startups: promotion of over 60 startups in 6 activities and support at least 20 of them with digital marketing, job training and meeting of possible investors. Jobs opening: At the end of the 6 activities we aim to accomplish the signing of 200 new employment/training opportunities, for NEET.
