We completed our Uganda Water House!
Water source at the River
We just got back from Uganda yesterday with a successful Water House running at the Kafunjo Community Project!
We started out the week changing our plans a few times due to the structural integrity of the buildings nearby, a broken pump, and the need for a clean water tank. We had the help of the entire community to build a structure for the tank, research and buy new pumps, and figure out how to hang all our equipment securely. They were so excited for the project and jumped in with great ideas and alot of sweat and hard work!
We also had the help of some volunteers that came from Jersey. They were eager to make sure we could complete the project in our short trip and helped us out alot with the building pieces we needed!
By mid-week we had the system up and tested and just were securing the pump we needed. The river we used as our source was about 100 feet straight up a mountain with a distance of around 700 feet. That takes a really powerful pump to do the job! We ended up traveling to a larger city a few hours from the community to find one!
The last day arrived and we focused on education, education, education! The staff at the Kafunjo community project will be the caretakers of the system and provide all the maintenance needed to keep it running. We did lots of teaching, videos, and left all the spare parts.
Testing out the system was a huge success and the whole community gatherered to see it in action! No one could decide who should get the first drink because it was such a huge accomplishment to not have to travel to the river for water AND that the water was clean without boiling! Lots of cups were shared and we left feeling so happy and content that over 375 kids and community members have clean water thanks to all of you!
Check out some of the photos in this report and be sure to visit our social media (Facebook and Instagram) to see the day by day updates and more videos of the final testing!
Thank you so much for making this project possible. YOU brought clean water to so many in such a beautiful place and we are so grateful.
