Give Central Valley Dogs a Second Chance

During Q3, our training program continued to play a critical role in keeping dogs in their homes and increasing adoptability. A total of 22 dogs successfully graduated from our group training program, gaining foundational skills that support long-term success with their families. In addition, 9 dogs participated in private training sessions, with a 100% success rate. All 9 dogs remained in their current homes, preventing surrender/return to our local shelter partners and reinforcing how targeted behavioral support can be the difference between stability and displacement.

Hinano, adopted from the Manteca Shelter, was at risk of being returned due to reactivity toward other dogs. Over the course of seven weeks in our group program, Hinano made remarkable progress. Hinano utimately learned to calmly pass within just a few feet of other dogs without reacting. Bruce Wayne, a pit bull mix scheduled for euthanasia at the Manteca Shelter, was also struggling with reactivity. Through an intensive two-week training program, Bruce Wayne was able to address these challenges, making him adoptable and leading to a successful placement within a couple of months. These outcomes demonstrate how timely, structured training can directly save lives and strengthen the human-animal bond.

The scale of our life-saving behavioral training program will increase substantially once we have a training facility to operate within. We continue to look for appropriate locations as we work to fund this next step in our rescue's growth.

In the first half of 2025, Better World Rescue saved 83 dogs and cats from euthanasia at our local shelters. Fum was a puppy at Stockton Shelter who was almost euthanized for space. All of his siblings (Fee, Fi, and Fo) were adopted, leaving Fum all alone to grow up in the scary shelter. Thanks to an amazing foster stepping up to take Fum in, we were able to save his life. Fum is now part of our Canine Good Citizen training program to help him learn all of his basic obedience so he is ready to shine in his forever home. 

We are doing the best we can in an area of the country that has so much need. It is a sad day when shelters are even euthanizing puppies due to lack of space, but unfortunately it is every day in the Central Valley. Our local shelters are full and Better World Rescue currently has 96 pets in foster care. We continue to work proactively within our community to help prevent dogs and cats from ending up in our local shelters by providing spay/neuter assistance, medical bill assistance, and behavioral training resources to pet families in need. 

The need for a boarding and behavioral training center for the area is greater than ever, and every donation helps towards this end goal. Better World Rescue is a 100% volunteer run organization focused on San Joaquin and Stanislaus counties, where there is tremendous need as most of our local shelters in these counties are considered high-kill and are forced to euthanize regularly for space.
