Girls in Ukraine face urgent and life-threatening challenges due to the ongoing war. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, over the past two years, a significant increase in cases of gender-based and domestic violence has been recorded in Ukraine. In 2023, the number of cases of domestic violence increased by 20% compared to the previous year. During the first two months of 2024, there were 56% more criminal offenses related to domestic violence and gender-based violence.
Project "Girls Power" is a crucial component of empowering girls in difficult life circumstances in Ukraine. The 6-week program provides essential education and life skills to prevent GBV, promote human rights, leadership, and health, and distribute necessary hygiene kits; these will create safer and more supportive environments.
By implementing this initiative, we will foster a society where young women are educated, empowered, and equipped to navigate their futures confidently. The creation of a supportive and educated cohort of young women will lead to a more resilient and inclusive civil society in Ukraine. Having a plan to scale the program to cover a larger number of girls will amplify this impact. By expanding to cover all 20 regions of Ukraine and increasing the number of participants from 200 to 2,000 annually.
