Socio Economic Profile of the Beneficiaries
The beneficiary children belong to migrant labor population of Khora Colony,Ghaziabad,Uttar Pradesh. The families are large, usually consisting of 7-8 members including the parents. The housing conditions are inadequate and there is no access to safe drinking water and clean toilets. Most of the parents are either uneducated and lack functional literacy. With large family and both the parents working long hours to make the ends meet, the children are expected to take up household responsibilities. While the young boys end up as child labor in small shops or business, the responsibility of caring for the younger siblings fall on the girl child of school going age. The parents do not have a regular source of income; additionally, their working hours are long, and they have to work under stressful and unsupportive conditions. With education not among the top family priority, the chances of the girls getting educated reduces even further. The children are denied basic needs such as healthcare and education either because of financial constraints or parental lack of awareness and sensitivity.
Rasta School for Girls, which is virtually an ideal Centre for the integral development of girl children in the vicinity, has been identified as a safe and secure place for the girl children of the community.
After much hurdles and difficult situations faced in the previous academic year due to COVID 19 pademic, students entered into their new academic classes with lots of hope and aspirations. As they were coming to school in batches as per Government guidelines to attend their classes. Unfortunately due to second wave of pandemic, we have to shut down the school again as per Government direction from April 15. We had to change our strategy and regular online classes have been conducted virtually for children instead of one to one classroom teaching. They were taught by Virtual Classes and given Class work and homework via WhatsApp or Basic phone. The teachers continued to teach the students by using technology like Phone/ WhatsApp/videos/ voice messages/others following the curriculum prescribed for particular activities. From July onwards children started coming to school in batches for taking work sheets and from August 21, government allowed to function school normally with less number of children in classes by following the guidelines. During the period 2 periodic tests were conducted apart from celebrating various events/importants days/competitions etc..
