Pakistan has an alarming rate of 27 million men, women, and children who are reported to have disabilities. In a developing country where approximately two million people live below the poverty line, assistive devices are not considered as basic needs for persons with disabilities (PWDs).
Last year in the months of April and May 2021, we were able to provide eleven wheelchairs to people with physical disabilities in Sujawal and Karachi. Sujawal is one of the poorest districts in the province of Sindh and has a high prevalence of disabilities.
It is with the assistance of well-wishers like you that we were able to make an impact in the lives of these eleven people. One wheelchair opens a road of possibilities; it allows ease of transport, means to and from schools and colleges, and most importantly, the ability to get become self-sufficient and independent. Together, we can impact the lives of 49 more PWDs so that mobility does not become a matter of luck, but a basic necessity for all PWDs.
