Capuchin Monkey waiting for the corridor
Cattle grazing or tree planting, which will it be? At Finca Salvaje the answer to that question depends upon you! If you’ve read the other reports you know that the owner of this property, Cindy Brand wants to put in a green corridor that would run between two rivers, the Rio Caliente and Rio Calientillo, but she lacks the resources to complete the project. She has begun planting trees on her own but needs our help to construct fences that will keep cattle out, to hire local laborers that can conduct the necessary maintenance around the newly planted trees, and to procure enough young trees to plant the whole corridor as she has envisioned it.
This corridor will provide cover and food for a whole host of wild life. It will help preserve the fantastic diversity of life that thrives in the tropics, but is gradually being eroded away by deforestation and development. It will become another project in which tons of CO2 are sequestered rather than being added to an already overloaded atmosphere.
On October 12th Global Giving is once again offering their Matching Donations incentive. There is $100,000 in matching funds, but the percentage matched is based on a graduated scale. The more a donor gives, the higher the matching percentage and we're matching up to $2,500 per donor! This is a great opportunity to stretch your donation dollars even farther and to help bring about the creation of this much needed biological corridor. Please give now and help this dream become a reality.

"Plant it and they will come"

One of the things we say at La Reserva is “If you plant it, they will come!” ‘They’, of course, are the many native animal species whose numbers have been dangerously depleted by their inability to follow their natural migratory patterns.
The project at Finca Salvaje would connect the native forests along the Rio Caliente and the Rio Calientillo. It would allow species such as the endangered Capuchin Monkey to enhance their gene pool by gaining access to additional family groups. It would provide additional food and habitat for a whole host of wildlife.
And perhaps most importantly, the funding of this project will keep existing forests from being cleared to make room for additional pastureland. The reality of life in Costa Rica is that the land has to produce income for those living on it. If we can raise the money for this project we can add to reforested areas rather than losing more much-needed forest. Please help us in our efforts to get planting.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CINDY!
By Roberta Ward Smiley | Founder and President of LRFF

Cindy under a rainbow
Yes, it is Cindy Brand’s birthday!
The La Reserva Forest Foundation would love to give Cindy the gift of creating the green corridor project on her farm in San Isidro del General. This corridor project is vital to connecting two forests that pass along the two rivers that border Cindy’s property.
She has expressed concern about whether she should allow the administrator, Doña Christina, to add even more cattle to the already heavily grazed farm or wait for the biological corridor project to come into fruition. Like most farmers in Costa Rica there is always the necessity of receiving an income from the land to support it’s activities.
Thank you to all of you who have donated to this project so far. Send the link to Cindy’s project http://www.globalgiving.org/projects/getting-connected-at-finca-salvaje-costa-rica/ to your friends and family asking them to support this wildlife highway that will increase their mobility and provide much needed bio-diverse habitat for foraging.
Next Wednesday, June 16th from 12 midnight to 11:59pm Global Giving will be matching all donation up to $1000/donor/project. Give a generous donation to the Finca Salvaje project on that day and remind your friends as well.
Let’s give Cindy an unbelievable belated birthday gift next Wednesday by letting her know that the Finca Salvaje biological corridor project is funded and ready to move forward.
LET’S GET PLANTING AT FINCA SALVAJE!
