Healing Hands Shelter for GVB
Healing Hands GBV Shelter has been extremely busy this year more than other years due to the increase in gbv. Some cases are worse than others and need more attention and care than others by means of traveling regularly to the hospital, doctors, SAPS, local clinic. We struggle with the little Polo Vivo 1,4 which we have which is also used in collection of donations daily for the other programs which we run. Getting another vehicle will be a blessing to the many benefiaries we have, cater for daily. Most of the time it is more than five women and children to be transported which is then a huge problem then we must do 2 or 3 trips. Women and children receive in depth counselling, transportation, safe accomodation, basic needs daily, 3 x meals, clothes, daipers, educational materials and support and after care when they have left.Victims are helped with preparation of their cv's and assisted with finding jobs to become self sustaining so that they do not have to be reliant on and go back to the abuser.
We are open 24 hours to receive these victims. Their safety and sound state of mind is our utmost priority and making them feel at home and showing that we do care and are there for them at their time of need. All suport is critical in making in these victyims lives as this is a global problem and we need to take hands in the fight against GBV.This shelter will also help achol and substance abuse victims. This is a huge problem in the Nelson Mandela Metro.

Healing Hands Shelter has been very busy with the numbers rising with gvb incidents on the rise in Port Elizabeth. We struggle with the little Polo Vivo 1.4 hatchback to transport victims to Saps, clinic and hospitals. We rteceive victims daily facing issues of family violence, indecent assault, bullying, suicide attemps and running for safety of fear for the lives from spouses and partners. We provide safe accomodation, transportation, basic needs, counseling and support, preparation of cv's and assistance with finding work as well as aftercare for victims. The transport is vital in transporting our clients to relavant stakeholders in order to reach the end goal of solving the problems and ensuring the safety of our clients.
This vehicle is also used for other programs such as Soup Kitchen, Community Gardens Projects, collection of donations and distributions to beneficiaries, and disasters. Another vehicle will be very helpful and make a huge difference in the lives of beneficiaries as well as the staff of Healing Hands. Women as well as children are transported in this little vehicle. Any type of support will be a huge blessing to our Projects and the People of Port Elizabeth.
Yours in Community Development
