Mr. Eum, a forty-two years old taxi driver, was diagnosed with Hepatitis B in 2018. He is a father of two daughters and a son. His wife worked in a garment factory near the house. Following his knowledge about his health problem, he had been visiting the hospital regularly for treatment. Due to the high cost of treatment plus the Corona Virus's aftermath, he has struggled financially and skipped his daily medicine. He only visited the clinic when his symptom got worse. His wife then quitted her job to take care of him. Throughout the therapy at the clinic, he spent around three hundred and fifteen dollars, the money he took out a loan from his siblings and villagers.
With his financial problem, his neighbor suggested that he get treated at Sihanouk Hospital Center of Hope, given the quality of service and generous support for the poor. When he first arrived at SHCH, he was shivering with a high fever and could not walk properly. Additionally, he felt pain and stiffness in his abdominal area; his stomach was bloated. After the examination, a doctor told him that he had pneumonia and liver cirrhosis due to delaying his treatment of Hepatitis B. The doctors and nurses looked after him with earnest effort for over a week, and he is now on his way to recuperating.
Sitting next to each other, He and his wife both smiled, and his wife said, "My husband's life would be in grave danger if we had not taken him to SHCH. Back then, we have lost all hope and did not know what to do. We only prayed hard so that he might be survived. Nevertheless, I am contented to see my husband has a speedy recovery." His wife continued: "We have no words to describe how we feel right now. We are so thankful for your subsidized treatment, which saves my husband's life as well as other poor souls." Mr. Eum and his wife are so excited, thinking that they would reunite with their family and continue to plan for their future together again.
