Food Support to 400 Orphans Families in Rwanda

The critical milestones achieved during this operational cycle would not have been possible without the unwavering commitment of our global community. In a region where 39% of the population lives below the poverty line, your generosity has transformed lives moving orphan-headed households away from chronic malnutrition and safeguarding vulnerable children from exploitation.

Food Security & Vulnerable Household Support
This initiative addresses systemic malnutrition by empowering child- and orphan-headed households to cultivate self-sustaining, long-term food sources through micro-vegetable gardens.
Operational Progress & Acceleration
The project witnessed a significant surge in momentum during the latter half of this cycle:
Baseline Status (Prior to March 2026): 21 small vegetable gardens established.
Mid-Year Acceleration (March 2026 – September 2026): 20 additional vegetable gardens were successfully realized, effectively doubling the project’s footprint within a six-month window through the local’s contributions.
Cumulative Impact: 41 functional vegetable gardens are now operational, providing direct nutritional independence to over 40 child-led families.
Key Sustainability Insights:
Community-Led Co-Funding: To navigate international funding gaps, local communities rallied to contribute between $120 to $180 in localized matching to maintain uninterrupted seed and tool distributions.
Long-Term Food Security: Rather than relying on short-term food handouts, child beneficiaries are trained in basic agronomic practices to plant, tend, and harvest their own nutrient-dense vegetables, building resilient households.
Call to Action: Sustaining the Momentum
While our child protection programs have achieved remarkable scale, our Food Support Project remains critically underfunded, leaving 359 orphan-headed families waiting for assistance.
