PROJECT CONTEXT

About 5.4 million out of Rwanda estimated 11.8 million people are under 18 years old. However, children and their families still face significant challenges. Despite rapid urbanization, around three quarters of the population live in rural areas. Poverty remains widespread, with 39 per cent of the population living below the poverty line and 16 per cent living in extreme poverty. Children are disproportionally affected by this poverty, experiencing multiple deprivations of their basic needs include getting food. In order to contribute to resolve the problem, EJO TWIFUZA Organization initiated the project of providing Food support to 400 orphans families in Rwanda.

PROJECT OBJECTIVE

The objective of this project is to funding seeds for 400 small vegetable gardens for 400 orphans’ families managed by children to grow, plant and harvest their own food in order to contributing to alleviate the problem and see how we can help vulnerable children to get foods.

EJOTWIFUZA aim was to mobilizing a budget of the total budget needed of $24,800 to provide small vegetable garden for 400 orphan children family to grow, plant and harvest their own food to help ensure food security and hope to eat to this vulnerable orphan children families.

 PLANNED ACTIVITIES

  • To mobilising a budget of $24,800 in Fundraising, 
  • Provide Seeds for a small vegetable garden for an orphan children family to grow, plant and harvest their own food
  • Provide Necessary materials for a small vegetable gardens for orphan families to grow, plant and harvest their own food
  • Provide Transport of volunteers to help construct small vegetable gardens for orphan families to grow, plant and harvest their own food
  • To provide Drinking Water for volunteers in the field of doing small vegetable gardens for orphan children’s

ACHIEVEMENTS

FUNDRAISING: On the planned budget of $24,800, we have been able to mobilize $ 135 from 3 donations on the GlobalGiving platform in the past 3 months.

ACTIVITIES REALIZED

  • Field visit have been organized by the volunteers to assess the geographic condition of the place to grow, plant and harvest their vegetable gardens. The Field visit is conducted in the District of Rubavu and Gicumbi.
  • Some necessary materials for 4 small vegetable gardens have been paid and the funds mobilization is continuing to get other needed necessaries for starting activities.

PLANNED NEXT STEPS

We continue do fundraising efforts to help mobilizing the needed funding and resources for the implementation of this project.
