This project aims to address issues of food insecurity, inadequate livelihoods, and gender inequality for 300 returned migrants and at-risk populations (50% women) in disadvantaged communities of Cambodia. Project will provide the training in climate change resilient agricultural techniques, gender-sensitive and transformative as well as peacebuilding. Project will distribute vegetable seeds, fish fingerlings, farming tools, chickens, etc. to households to produce food to meet the family's need.
The outbreak of COVID 19 has harmed the living condition of returned migrants and at-risk populations. Due to job losses, economic restrictions, and lockdowns in their host country or at their workplace, over 200,000 Cambodian migrant workers have returned town home. The impact of COVID-19 affects their daily living conditions, they have no income and family has faced with food shortage and hunger. Poor living conduction may lead to domestic violence and women and children are most at risk.
The project will train 300 returned migrants and at-risk populations in agricultural climate change adaptation techniques including vegetable, fish, and poultry production. The project will provide agriculture inputs to participants like vegetable seeds, fish fingerlings, farming tools and materials, chickens, and materials for chicken shelters. The project also will train those participants in gender, women's rights, laws on domestic violence prevention and protection of victims and peace.
The 300 returned migrants and at-risk populations will have obtained knowledge, skills and resources to produce diverse food productions to support their households food consumption and earning extra incomes from selling the surplus of food produced. The participants also changed their attitudes, behaviors, and beliefs about gender roles/responsibilities and access and control over resources between men and women within their households.
