Books train your mind to imagination to think big.
We’re always excited to share some fantastic updates from ABCs and Rice in Siem Reap, Cambodia.Your incredible support has made all of this possible, and we can’t wait to tell you all about it:
Community Support and Nutrition Programs
- Breakfast and lunch are key for our students to stay energized and ready to learn. We’re making sure they get the nutrition they need for a productive day.
- The Rice Run is a big hit, motivating our students to keep up with their studies. While sustaining families most in need
- Villagers and parents are coming to the school for free clean water – it’s wonderful to see the community coming together.
Education Program:
- We welcomed 41 new students across 5 different classes – our family is growing!
- Some of our girls cheered on a local girls’ football match, showing their support and building community spirit.
- Term 3 is nearly over and a new academic year begins. We will keep you posted on scoring updates but student retention has seen an all time high and grades are looking good!
Nursing Station and Outreach:
- Our “Kid Care”nursing station is busy as ever, collecting important health data and caring for our kids and their families.
- In the last three months, 90 students visited our nurse, and 240 had BMI checkups. Four students need monthly check ups due to weight loss, and we’re keeping a close eye on them.
- This program has been primarily funded by Cambodian Rice Run since it’s inception but we are now seeking more permanent support -Reach out for more information.
- Our outreach programs are making a difference in local villages, reaching those who need it most.
Community Fun and Green Initiatives:
- We had a blast with our Dr. Seuss environmental movie night! Families came together under the stars, munching on popcorn and learning about taking care of our planet.
- Every kiddo at ABCs and Rice got a Seedling eggplant plant to grow. We even had an eggplant contest with seeds and fertilized soil – it’s all about growth and sustainability!
- Our senior students got creative and designed some awesome t-shirts inspired by ABCs, education, and culture.
Volunteers Program:
- In the past three months, we’ve had 12 amazing short-term volunteers helping out with cooking, dancing, BMI checkups, and first aid.
- A group of Chinese medical students teamed up with us for BMI, color, and vision checkups – so grateful for their help!
- Shoutout to our longer term and returning volunteers – you guys are rockstars and a huge part of our ABCs and Rice family.
- Our Canadian board is evolving, with Lindsay back as chair and a passionate team driving positive change.
