Flood affected people want livelihood and education
By Janet Preethi | Project Leader
Group of Women helped by goat rearing project
Cuddalore area was the most affected in the floods of December 2015. Many people lost houses. They wanted reconstruction of houses. In due recognition of supports from Friends through GlobalGiving, VOICE Trust together with local partners PMSSS and HESAT motivated flood affected people to choose livelihood projects and educational supports for progress in life. The Women accepted this and started goat rearing. 900 Women (500 through PMSSS and 400 through HESAT) have benefitted so far. From 3 goats given to them as flood recovery scheme under GlobalGiving and VOICE Trust project, 2 more young goats are now added, thus increasing their incomes for meeting family needs. Interestingly, these Women are also growing Azolla algae for providing nutrition to goats and also for agricultural fields. Over 600 school Children have benefitted through educational supports and special classes for preparation of Grade 10 and Grade 12 Government exams during March 2017.
Though many houses destroyed by floods have not been rebuilt, still, VOICE Trust joins the local partners to appeal to you for your continued supports through GlobalGiving for the following needs expressed by flood affected people.
1. Educational supports for 300 school Children
2. Livelihood supports for 150 Women headed families
3. Free tuition classes for 20 days in a month for 10 months in 15 villages
