Thanks to donors through GlobalGiving, flood affected families of Cuddalore received emergency relief supplies in beginning of year 2016 and involved in livelihood enhancements by goat rearing. True, the main objective of this project was to rebuild homes destroyed by floods in Cuddalore and Villupuram Districts. Since only minimum donations for this purpose has come, from middle of year 2016, school going children were assisted with educational supports like books and notebooks. We will go in for rebuilding of homes after raising more funds.
63 Children have scored more marks in quarterly exams conducted in September 2017. The parents inform that children used the notebooks for school exercises and also for home works.

Cuddalore area was the most affected in the floods of December 2015. Many people lost houses. They wanted reconstruction of houses. In due recognition of supports from Friends through GlobalGiving, VOICE Trust together with local partners PMSSS and HESAT motivated flood affected people to choose livelihood projects and educational supports for progress in life. The Women accepted this and started goat rearing. 900 Women (500 through PMSSS and 400 through HESAT) have benefitted so far. From 3 goats given to them as flood recovery scheme under GlobalGiving and VOICE Trust project, 2 more young goats are now added, thus increasing their incomes for meeting family needs. Interestingly, these Women are also growing Azolla algae for providing nutrition to goats and also for agricultural fields. Over 600 school Children have benefitted through educational supports and special classes for preparation of Grade 10 and Grade 12 Government exams during March 2017.
Though many houses destroyed by floods have not been rebuilt, still, VOICE Trust joins the local partners to appeal to you for your continued supports through GlobalGiving for the following needs expressed by flood affected people.

When news about floods in December in the State of Tamilnadu, many channels spoke about Chennai city and suburban areas. But, the dangers of deluge in Cuddalore and Villupuram Districts did not get prominent coverage. That is why, VOICE Trust approached many of you through Global Giving for Recovery Programs for flood affected people of Cuddalore and Villupuram Districts.
With your help, flood affected people of Cuddalore District were helped in March 2016 with tarpaulin sheets for covering their hutments and with relief supplies for 604 families. In partnership with PMSSS – the local organization, goats were distributed to women for reviving family incomes in June and September 2016, educational supports were extended to 1000 school children through HESAT- another local organization.
During October – December 2016, participatory programs were organized in Kurinjikudi and Valasakadu Villages for selecting most deserving single women and widows for goat rearing project. This was needed because many people asked for help. PRA (Participatory Rural Appraisal) exercises had to be used for telling people that most deserving should be helped. The process is on.
The title of this project is for rebuilding houses destroyed by floods. In one photo, you can see the huts covered with blue sheets given with your help in March 2016. Please hasten to help atleast small number of people to rebuild homes.
