Before Christmas in the Chennai area there was significant flooding which caused a lot of hardship and broken telecommunications. We operate about 100 miles west of Chennai and we did not have any flooding. In 2015 we had the worst flooding in 100 years. Many of the river basins which had been dry for 100 years ended up being flooded. We distributed blankets and food. But this year it was not necessary. We operate with 3500 families and have advised many of them to move into areas which cannot be affected by floods. The main problem with the area's lack of water Is the lack of work for the mothers in our programme who depend on daily wages in rice fields and sugarcane fields.
