Dear Generous Donor,
Namaskar & Greetings from Nepal
Today it is my pleasure to progress updates you on the project you supported for flood victims in Southern Nepal: https://www.globalgiving.org/projects/emergency-flood-relief-fund-for-victims-in-nepal/
In the second week of last August torrential rain and catastrophic flooding have made devastating effects in the normal lives- homes were destroyed, entire neighborhoods submerged, and hundreds of families left their place and belongings to escape rising flood waters. Many parts of the southern Nepal remained in flood waters for 15 days.
Stakeholders in relief support including JWAS approached immediately to the flood victims with medical reliefs, immediate food stuffs, cooking utensils, clothes and tent items. Local police and community leaders were mobilized in between for rescues and distribution of immediate relief items. JWAS local volunteers and staffs oriented communities for water purification method and supplied with Water Guards, Acuqa Tabs, bleaching powders, soaps, bucket and mug for water collection and reservation. They even facilitated for hand washing with soaps in critical times, maintaining proper hygiene behavior and use of toilets and safe defecation.
As the situation was coming slowly in normal and the families were returning back to their places focus were given in reconstruction of local roads damaged in the floods with the involvement of local leaders, communities, volunteers and staffs.
Through this project JWAS is working in one of the lowest areas of Nepal. Flooding and submerging of neighborhoods are common in every monsoon season but the difference this year was that the scale of causalities in lives and properties was significantly higher as compared to previous years. The most vulnerable in the situation always counts for women, children and elderly people from the underprivileged communities as there house structures are not flood resilient and cannot stand firm with the rising water levels during the floods. To support these communities in longer sense as per the demand of the community, JWAS is constructing five flood resilient community shelters through this project in different strategic locations where the victims will have temporary shelters during the floods in every monsoon. These shelters will be equipped with flood resilient toilets and drinking water facilities. Additionally we are also installing 40 floods resilient drinking water hand pumps in underprivileged communities of the flooding areas so people will have access to safe drinking water facilities during the floods in every monsoon.
The work has already been started for construction of the shelters and in our reporting in coming months we’ll be sharing you every progress of the project including the progress on flood resilient community shelter’s construction. This all has become possible through your generosity and love towards the people in the time of need whom you had never met before. So we value your every donation and assure you that it will be reached to the people you have been desired. But still, we lag behind in the collected fund for construction of five such shelters. So we request all to spread the words to your near and dear ones for funding this project and help us reach many families affected by the floods.
Thank you for your generosity during the time of devastation and looked up with hopes and prayed by many during the period!
Please feel free to contact me for more details.
Thank you once again.
