Challenge

Catastrophic floods & landslides have devastated communities along Nepal's Bhote Koshi-Trishuli corridor, particularly Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, & surrounding areas. Nearly 1500 bodies have been recovered, while around 5,000 people remain missing so far. Homes, schools, hospitals, roads, bridges, hydropower facilities, and livelihoods have been destroyed, leaving families displaced & without food, safe water, shelter & essential services. Urgent relief, protection & recovery support are needed.

Solution

As a locally based organization with low operational costs, JWAS can deliver timely, flexible, and locally led support to flood-affected communities. We will prioritize marginalized, remote, and hard-to-reach families, addressing urgent needs such as food, safe water, shelter, medical care, and essential supplies. We will also support recovery and rebuilding by coordinating with local authorities through the one-door mechanism to ensure an equitable response.

Long-Term Impact

The project will help flood-affected families recover safely and rebuild their lives with dignity. Beyond immediate relief, JWAS will support livelihood recovery, restoration of essential services, and community resilience. Prioritizing marginalized and hard-to-reach communities will help reduce inequalities, restore assets, and strengthen local preparedness, enabling communities to better withstand future floods, landslides, and other disasters.
