At Del Carmen Foundation, we believe that education is one of the most powerful tools for breaking the cycle of poverty. Thanks to the generosity of our GlobalGiving donors, we continue to expand educational opportunities while responding with compassion when unexpected crises threaten the future of the children we serve.
This spring, we hosted a special scholarship fundraising event in Philadelphia featuring Luz María Doria, bestselling author, award-winning journalist, and inspirational speaker, as our keynote guest. The event brought together supporters from Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Delaware, and Florida who shared a common vision: investing in education to transform lives in both Philadelphia and Venezuela.
Throughout the evening, Luz María Doria inspired attendees with a powerful message about resilience, leadership, hope, and the life-changing impact of education. Her words reminded us that when a person is given the opportunity to learn, an entire community benefits.
Later on June 24th, our mission faced an unexpected challenge. A devastating earthquake struck Venezuela, leaving countless families without access to basic necessities and placing many children's education at risk. Schools were damaged, families were displaced, and communities struggled to recover.
Because of the support of our donors and volunteers, Del Carmen Foundation was able to respond quickly alongside our local partners. We distributed clean drinking water, food, essential hygiene kits, medicines, and other emergency supplies to affected families. Volunteer doctors provided medical assistance, while children received toys and coloring books that offered moments of comfort, hope, and emotional healing during an incredibly difficult time.
Although our project focuses on education, we know that children cannot learn when they are hungry, sick, or living through disaster. By meeting their immediate needs, we help create the conditions for them to return to school, continue learning, and build a brighter future.
