This project will provide medical care for 480 children under five suffering from anemia. As well, we look forward to giving the children the necessary capacities to learn at an average rate, so they won't be left behind in these matters. With the donations, we will work in the district of Santa Rosa, Lima-Peru, to improve both their health and learning capabilities by providing close support and control, food supplements, and training their parents to implement iron-based diets at a low cost.
Yair is a two-year-old child with level eight of hemoglobin, which means he's got anemia. If we do not reverse this figure, his anemia will become chronic. His learning abilities will be limited; he will not be able to develop his full potential, making it much more difficult for him to break the cycle of poverty in which he finds himself. Anemia destroys the possibility of a better future. Like him, 55% of children between 6 and 36 months old in the Santa Rosa district suffer from anemia.
We work on preventing, detecting, monitoring, and controlling children with anemia. We carry out home visits and primary health care campaigns, in which screenings allow us to detect children with anemia. When a child has anemia, we treat them, monitor them, take an active role in their lives, and ensure their improvement. This includes giving their parents both educational and demonstration sessions so that they can improve their diet and adjust a healthy menu to their budget.
Every six months, 80 children overcome anemia thanks to our support. These boys and girls will show the expected growth for their ages; they will have a better immune response and be energetic, happy, and easy-going. Their brain development will be appropriate, and they will fight conditions like attention deficit. Therefore they will be in better circumstances to learn and improve their living conditions and won't be left behind.
