Success Story: Feeding 1000 Poor Rural School Girls in Yemen
Project Overview
In the heart of Yemen, a humanitarian initiative was launched to combat hunger and promote education among vulnerable populations. The "Feeding 1000 Poor Rural School Girls in Yemen" project aimed to provide nutritious meals to girls in rural schools over five years. This initiative not only addressed immediate nutritional needs but also sought to empower young girls through education and community involvement.
The Challenge
Yemen has faced ongoing conflict, economic instability, and food insecurity, particularly affecting rural areas. Many families struggle to provide basic necessities, leading to high dropout rates among girls who often prioritize household responsibilities over education. Without proper nutrition, these young girls faced severe health risks, hampering their ability to learn and thrive.
Implementation
With your generous support, GlobalGiving, and NGOs the project was launched in 2020. The Support Yemeni Society Organization's Team established partnerships with AlNajah and AlRazi schools and the local communities to ensure the program was culturally sensitive and effectively addressed the needs of the girls. Key components of the project included:
Nutritious Meals: Each school day, girls receive a balanced meal, including proteins, grains, and fresh fruits. This not only improved their health but also increased school attendance.
Community Engagement: Parents and community leaders were involved in the planning and execution of the project, fostering a sense of ownership and commitment to the girls' education.
Education and Awareness: Workshops were held to educate families about the importance of education for girls, aiming to shift cultural perceptions and encourage support for schooling.
Monitoring and Evaluation: Regular assessments were conducted to measure the impact of the program on school attendance, health, and academic performance.
Impact
Over five years, the project has transformed the lives of 1,000 girls and their communities. The results have been profound:
Increased School Attendance: Absenteeism among the targeted girls dropped by 75%, with many girls now regularly attending classes and actively participating in school activities.
Improved Health: Health screenings revealed significant improvements in the nutritional status of participants. Cases of malnutrition decreased by over 60%, leading to better overall health and well-being.
Empowered Families: Families began to see the value of educating their daughters, resulting in increased support for girls’ education within households. Many parents reported a shift in attitudes, recognizing that educated daughters could contribute to their communities and families.
Testimonials

"Before this project, I often felt too weak to concentrate in school. Now, with a full stomach, I can learn and dream of becoming a teacher!"
Fatima, a mother:
"I used to worry about my daughter’s future. Now, I see how education can change lives. I am proud to support her schooling."
Conclusion
The Feeding 1000 Poor Rural School Girls in Yemen" project has become a beacon of hope in Yemen, demonstrating the profound impact of targeted humanitarian efforts. By addressing hunger and promoting education, we have not only nourished young minds but also empowered a generation of girls to dream bigger and achieve more.
