We manage 12 boarding schools with over 900 students in the south of Sofala province. These are students who come from very distant regions, where there are no schools to continue their studies. This means that the student's regions of origin have no opportunities - usually after the primary school, from 6th grade onwards. That's why, through the boarding schools, these students have the chance to continue studying at ESMABAMA schools, where they also have a place to stay. To do this, ESMABAMA spends around 500,000 Meticais (MZN) = 7,825.53 dollars (USD) each month to buy maize, 530,000 MZN = 8,295.07 USD for beans, 250.000 MZN = 3,912.77 USD for cooking oil, 150,500 MZN = 2,355.49 USD for sugar, and 6000 MZN = 93.91USD for the purchase of salt, totaling 1,436,500 MZN corresponding to 22,482.76 USD total costs per month.
For this project, we received 72.60 USD from GlobalGiving between March and September. And with this amount, which has not yet been disbursed, we will be able to use it to buy salt for the students in one of the following months.
Without ESMABAMA's boarding schools, many students give up their studies to pursue other activities and others marry prematurely, leaving their dreams behind. By providing food, we are also providing the "fuel" that enables the students to have the energy to pay attention in class and dedicate themselves to the studies.
