A Child Cannot Learn on an Empty Stomach

Imagine arriving at school eager to learn, but struggling to listen because you are hungry. For some children in the communities around Naomi’s Village, a meal at school may be the most dependable food they receive all day.

Food security means more than having enough to eat today. It means knowing there will be food tomorrow, too. That consistency helps children concentrate, participate in class, and get the nourishment they need to grow. It also eases a worry for families facing difficult choices.

Through the Naomi’s Village feeding program, 96 children living at Naomi’s Village Home receive three meals and two snacks each day. Another 426 children attending LEAP Preschool and Cornerstone Preparatory Academy receive two meals and two snacks during the school day. Behind every meal is a child who deserves the chance to learn without hunger getting in the way.

Our teachers have seen what happens when food becomes scarce at home. One student grew unusually quiet and found it hard to focus. Once she could count on breakfast and lunch at school, her energy returned. She began participating again, reconnecting with friends, and smiling.

We also want children to have nutritious food when they are away from school. With donor support, Naomi’s Village helps families establish kitchen gardens where they can grow fresh vegetables at home. The photos show recent visitors helping create a garden for one of our families.

You can help make this possible for another child. Please give to Naomi’s Village’s feeding program today. Your gift helps provide dependable meals at school and supports families in growing food at home, giving children the nourishment they need to learn and thrive.
