By Anne Thompson/Kellentash Kabuba | President Macheo US /Communications Macheo Kenya
We wish you every best of the Season, enjoying time and connection with family and friends.
At Macheo US we are just a conduit for you to be able to alter the course of other people's lives in another country and culture. In the West our lives generally are characterized by a bountiful array of food and numerous luxuries to enrich our lives. As we approach this Holiday Season consider those struggling on the margins of life. Read the story of Janice who, with the your help, started a micro business, budgeted, saved, fed her extended family and passed on her knowledge to neighbors.
As a supporter of our cause, help us enable more Kenyan families to have a more stable future.
Happy Holidays and wishing you an enriching 2022.
Kind Regards,
Anne Thompson

How your support transformed Janice life
Before Janice met Macheo, she felt that her life was in shambles. She was a single mother of adult children who had left her to care for their children. She cared for 3 of her grandchildren and had taken in a 4th child from her friend who was suffering from depression and was struggling to raise her. As a guardian of 4 children, Janice had no job and her business had fallen. She felt really frustrated and hopeless. Her children barely had enough to eat and the house she lived in was in bad condition. Her rent was overdue and her children could not go to school because they did not have uniforms and would always feel hungry and drowsy while in school.
After meeting the Macheo social worker, Janice’s children were enrolled in school. The social worker ensured that they all received uniforms and they also got to sign up for the Macheo School Feeding Program. Janice also received a cash transfer that she used to buy food, pay rent, and buy some clothes for her children.
Like any responsible parent, Janice always did her best to meet her family's needs but was beginning to feel overwhelmed by the growing needs of her family and her lack of a job. Through the Macheo Household Economic Empowerment Intervention, Janice was taught best practices for business growth and saving. She was then supported with a seed capital to start a greengrocer shop, which she started. Janice worked really hard and her greengrocer shop helped her to start another business selling second-hand clothing. After some time, she also decided to start a third business making lunch for casual workers in her area. She is now mentoring other women in her village on how to save and grow a business. She moved to a bigger house and usually helps many of her neighbors when they are going through harsh financial struggles. Her children never sleep hungry anymore and are doing well in their studies. Janice's life has truly transformed and it is all because of your support.
