We have some amazing news! We broke ground this month on Phase 1 of the expansion of the Challenging Heights Hovde House! Your support and belief in these amazing children have done that, and we're excited to share the progress with you.
But first, did you know that today is #GivingTuesday? You may have heard of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, but Giving Tuesday is a day to kick off the end-of-year giving season. And today, Global Giving will be sharing the wealth with a proportional match. Give today, and your investment in these children goes a little bit futher.
About the ground-breaking, we're expanding the shelter in two phases. The plans for Phase 1 include an entirely new building, consisting of six classrooms and a dedicated library. We currently have four classrooms and a shared library space, that is also used for a variety of therapies. If we are going to take in more boys and girls who have been rescued from modern slavery, we will need more space to provide a quality education.
These classrooms will allow class sizes to remain small and the children to receive individualised attention in class. The library, full of age- and reading-level-appropriate books will be an amazing resource for these survivors.
Your belief in a quality education for these children makes this possible.
Once we complete Phase 1, we will move onto Phase 2, which includes converting the current classrooms into dormitories and adding on the second floor above them. For the entiretiy of 2017, all of the dorms have been filled with rescued children. These new dorms will allow us to care for up to 100 children at a time.
We're very excited for this expansion, as it brings us that much closer to our goal of ending child trafficking in Ghana's fishing industry.
As always, we are grateful for your support. And happy Giving Tuesday!
