Earlier this month, nearly 30 children said goodbye to the Challenging Heights Hovde House because they went home to their families. At the same time, we welcomed back our Rescue Team with an additional 15 children, 12 boys and three girls. It was quite the way to start off the month.
Over two days, our Reintegration Team brought home 19 children, while our partner organisations brought home an additional 10. At each home, as the bus pulled up, mothers, fathers, siblings and grandparents would rush out to the street to meet the children with hearty and warm embraces. Our staff explained what the next steps would be, either enrolment in school or an apprenticeship, and when they could expect us to stop by to do that.
While the team was out on the first day, our Rescue Team arrived at the shelter after 10 days on Lake Volta. They arrived with 15 children, 12 boys and three girls, with three pairs of siblings. This rescue mission had a couple of challenges. Because it is currently rainy season in Ghana, many days were spent on the lake in poor weather. Also, two villages threatened to attack, however because they knew some of our local team members, they refrained. Now, 15 children have warm beds, nutritious food and a chance at childhood at the shelter.
We've made some progress in securing some outside funding for the expansion, and so we hope to begin some parts of the project soon.
Thank you, as always, for your support. Would you mind sharing this with a friend or two? We'd love their support, too.
