Introduction
At Twende, our mission has always been to accelerate innovation for both youth and adults, empowering them to
become creative problem-solvers who develop practical technologies that address personal and community
challenges.
Since our last report to the GlobalGiving community, we have made further progress toward our building expansion,
and we are already seeing the benefits of the improvements made so far. This report shares our milestones, the
impact of our progress to date, and an appeal for continued support to help us complete this important expansion.
Progress Update
Building on the milestones shared in our previous report, including the completion of architectural drawings and the
professional cost assessment, we are pleased to share the following updates:
1. Formal On-Site Structural Assessment Completed
We are glad to report that the formal on-site structural assessment, previously in preparation with our identified
engineering and surveying professionals, has now been completed. This assessment gives us a clear, verified
understanding of the site's structural conditions and confirms that we are technically ready to proceed once
construction permit approval is granted.
2. Construction Permit Approval: Still in Progress
Our application for construction permit approval with local authorities remains in progress. We continue to follow
up closely with the relevant offices and remain committed to securing this approval as quickly as possible, as it is
the key remaining step before construction can begin.
3. The Expanded Prototype Storage Space Is Making a Real Difference
As shared previously, we expanded our backspace at Twende to provide additional dedicated storage for prototypes
ahead of the full building expansion. We are pleased to report that this space is now fully in use and working well.
Our innovators now have an organized, reliable, and secure place to store their prototypes while they are in
development. This interim improvement has already brought real, tangible relief to the day-to-day running of the
makerspace, and it stands as a clear example of how every step of this expansion translates into direct benefits for
our community of innovators.
Why Continued Support Matters
The progress so far, the structural assessment, the improved storage space, and the completed architectural and cost
planning have brought us closer to breaking ground. However, completing the full building extension, including the
innovation showcase area and Digital Lab, will require additional funding beyond what has been raised to date.
With additional support from our GlobalGiving community, we will be able to:
• Move quickly into construction as soon as permit approval is secured
• Complete the building extension and dedicated innovation showcase area
• Build out the new Digital Lab for programming, electronics, and digital fabrication
• Accommodate a significantly larger number of innovators, of all ages, safely and comfortably
• Continue strengthening Twende as a long-term center for innovation in Arusha
Next Steps
• Finalize construction permit approval with local authorities.
• Mobilize additional funding to close the gap identified in our cost assessment.
• Begin early-stage construction activities once approvals and funding are secured.
• Continue to keep our supporters updated with transparent, regular progress reports.
A Call to Our GlobalGiving Community
Every milestone we have reached, from architectural drawings to structural assessment to a functioning new
prototype storage space, exists because of the generosity of donors like you. We are asking you today to help us
carry this momentum forward. Your continued contribution will move us closer to breaking ground on a space that
will expand opportunity for innovators across Arusha for years to come.
Thank you for standing with Twende. We look forward to sharing our next milestone with you soon.
