Computer Basic Skills Sessions as Saashisha School
The Digital Literacy Project, launched in September 2024, aims to empower youth in Tanzania by equipping them with essential computer skills, thereby bridging the digital divide and enhancing opportunities for education and employment. The project targets under-resourced schools, starting with Saashisha Secondary School in Hai District and Commercial Secondary School in Zanzibar.
Achievements to Date:
Since the project’s inception:
- 100 Youth Trained: We have conducted comprehensive digital literacy training sessions for approximately 100 youths from the two schools.
- Basic Computer Skills Development: Participants have been introduced to foundational computer skills, including:
- Hardware and Software Basics: Understanding the components of a computer and basic software operations.
- Word Processing and Spreadsheets: Using programs like Microsoft Word and Excel for academic and personal tasks.
- Internet Navigation and Online Safety: Exploring the internet for educational purposes and ensuring safe digital practices.
Impact on Beneficiaries:
The training has:
- Improved students' confidence in using technology for academic purposes.
- Enabled them to apply their new skills in other aspects of their lives, such as creating personal documents and conducting research online.
- Sparked interest in more advanced technological skills, with some students expressing aspirations in programming and digital entrepreneurship.
Community Engagement:
The initiative has received strong support from the local communities and school leadership, who recognize the importance of digital literacy in preparing students for the 21st-century workforce.
Next Steps:
- Scale up training to reach more students and teachers at these schools.
- Explore partnerships to provide additional resources such as computers and internet connectivity.
- Monitor and evaluate the project’s long-term impact on students’ academic and professional outcomes.

Additional Computer Labs in 2 Public Schools - In Hai District and Zanzibar

We are excited to announce the launch of two new computer labs at
- Zanzibar Commercial Secondary School, officially inaugurated by the Minister of Education and Vocational Training - Hon. Lela Mohamed.
- Saashisha Secondary School officially inaugurated by the District Commissioner of Hai District Hon Lazaro Jacob.
These lab, generously supported by Drexel University and Drexel tech serve , marks a significant milestone in providing students with critical digital skills needed for success in the 21st century.
These labs will empower students with the technological tools and knowledge to thrive in a digital economy, enhancing their employability, innovation potential, and ability to contribute to Tanzania growing economy. As technology continues to shape industries, this lab ensures that students are prepared to compete on a global scale, positioning them for a brighter future.
Together with Drexel University and Drexel TechServe, we are committed to supporting many more schools across Tanzania, fostering a generation of digitally skilled youth who will drive sustainable development and innovation in the region. This collaboration highlights the power of global partnerships in transforming education and opening doors to limitless opportunities for the youth of Tanzania.

Digital Literacy Clubs Workshops
We were able to conduct students workshop on digital literacy at Maringeni Secondary for four days involving equipping 41 students (21 females and 20 males) with the introduction to basic digital literacy skills first steps on what digital literacy is, how to turn on digital devices on, restarting digital devices and health and safety while working with digital devices.
We were able to conduct teachers capacity building workshop for three days in which a total of 12 teachers (6 females and 6 males) were capacitated with digital literacy skills on Navigating on digital device,Using accessibility features,Using computers safely,Creating passwords,Connecting to the internetas well Microsoft Productivity Tools ie. Ms Word, Ms, Excel, Ms PPT
