TEACHERS CAPACITY BUILDING IN KILIMANJARO

Teachers capacity building session in Maringeni

During the Computer Lab Monitoring Visit conducted in Moshi Urban, Hai, and Simanjiro Districts, a 2 days capacity-building sessions in each school were delivered to about 40 teachers (23 male and 17 female) from beneficiary schools (i.e. Maringeni Secondary, Saashisha Secondary, Nkuu Secondary and Naisinyai Secondary)

The training focused on three key areas:

Digital Teaching Tools – Enhancing teachers’ ability to effectively utilize digital platforms and applications, such as Microsoft Office tools, Google Workspace, online conferencing platforms (i.e. Google Meet, Zoom and Microsoft Teams), Canva, Google Classroom and Email services, to support teaching and learning.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Prompting – Introducing teachers to the fundamentals of AI, walking them through the underlying technology behind Ai Models and building practical skills in prompt design to enable effective and responsible use of AI tools.
Computer Laboratory Management and Maintenance – Reinforcing best practices for the proper use, management, and maintenance of computer labs to ensure sustainability of the facilities. This training was particularly important following the expansion of trained personnel from two to at least five teachers per school.

This engagement also identified additional capacity-building needs that may be considered in future interventions such as; responsible social media usage, PowerPoint presentation design, and ethical & responsible application of AI technologies.

Bridging the Digital Divide in Kibaha District

Computer lab launching at Viziwaziwa Sec School

On 29 January 2026, we proudly reached another milestone with the launch of a new computer lab at ViziwaZiwa Secondary School in Kibaha District, Pwani Region—made possible by the generosity of our partners and donors. This lab was established through a strong, community-led partnership with Drexel TechServ, the Office of the District Commissioner–Kibaha, school leadership, and the local community. It is a powerful example of how donor support, when combined with local ownership and government collaboration, creates lasting impact.

We extend our sincere appreciation to everyone who has contributed through the GlobalGiving platform. Your donations will directly fund a one-week digital skills training program for students and teachers, ensuring that the computers are not just installed—but actively used to strengthen teaching, learning, and digital confidence.

The launch was officiated by Hon. Nickson Simon, District Commissioner of Kibaha, together with the District Education Officer and District Executive Director, reaffirming shared commitment to expanding equitable access to digital education. With this addition, TEDI has now established seven (7) computer labs, each opening doors to digital literacy, opportunity, and future-ready skills for young people. Every lab is a tangible return on donor investment.

As we look ahead, our ambition is clear: to establish 50 computer labs by 2027, reaching more schools and communities—one partnership, one classroom, one learner at a time. Because of you, students are learning, teachers are empowered, and communities are connected to opportunity. One more computer lab. One more community reached. One more future transformed.

Nkuu Sec School Computer Lab Launching

Project Update: Launch of a New Computer Lab at Nkuu Secondary School

On 11th September 2025, we proudly launched a new Computer Lab at Nkuu Secondary School in Hai District—a milestone moment in empowering students with essential digital skills. The event was officiated by Mr. Dionis Myinga, District Executive Director (on behalf of the District Commissioner), and marked a big step forward for our One Computer Lab One School program.

A Partnership Model That Works

The most inspiring part of this initiative is our partnership model, which unites global partners with local stakeholders. Over the years, we’ve seen how Local Government Authorities and District Councils have actively collaborated with us to make digital education possible.

At Nkuu, the launch event brought together the District Commissioner’s Office, Ward and Village Offices, the School Board, school leadership, community members, and heads of neighboring schools—a true reflection of community ownership and shared responsibility for education.

Global Partnerships Driving Local Impact

We are deeply grateful to our global partners at Drexel University and Drexel TechServ, whose unwavering support continues to strengthen this vision. In recognition of their dedication, we were honored to present them with certificates of appreciation during the launch.

Their commitment has been instrumental in bridging digital divides and empowering students with the tools and skills they need to thrive in the 21st century. Together with our local partners, we are building sustainable pathways for digital literacy, education, and youth empowerment.

Students Taking Their First Digital Steps

One of the most touching moments during the launch was watching students take their first steps into digital literacy—learning the basics like switching on a computer, guided by Drexel University students.

It was a small step, but it marked the beginning of a journey that opens doors to endless opportunities in education, careers, and global connections.

Looking Ahead

The success of this launch demonstrates that sustainable development in education thrives when communities and institutions unite for the future of our youth. With every lab established, we are one step closer to making digital inclusion a reality for all students in Tanzania.
