This quarter marked foundational progress toward launching our ICT and digital literacy program in Mutuati, Igembe North Constituency, Meru County. The project aims to equip 500 youth — with a focus on girls and youth with disabilities — with basic computer training, digital marketing, and online skills for both education and economic advancement.
Key Achievements:
Facility Identification & Local Engagement:
We secured a training site at a local school and held sensitization meetings with area leaders, teachers, and parents. The local government, including the office of the CECM for Health and community development officers, have expressed support and are engaged in the mobilization process.
Community Buy-In & Recruitment:
Through grassroots mobilization and local barazas, we’ve received strong interest from both youth and caregivers. Registration opened in mid-June, and we’ve already registered 287 youth, including 167 girls, to begin training in August.
Curriculum Preparedness:
We are adapting the successful curriculum from our Mathare-based “Code Her Future Kenya” initiative — which includes basic computer packages, online research, social media monetization, and graphic design. Local instructors are being trained to deliver context-sensitive learning.
Challenges:
Despite these, the local resolve is strong, and we are committed to a phased rollout.
