The lack of access to electricity in Sierra Leone poses a significant challenge to inclusive growth and sustainable development. Access to affordable, reliable, and sustainable energy is essential for poverty reduction and achieving the country's sustainable goals. While urban areas in Sierra Leone have some access to the national grid, the quality of power delivery remains suboptimal, hindering business growth and innovation. However, it is the rural areas, where approximately 60% of Sierra Leoneans reside, that face the greatest energy challenges, impeding socio-economic development. Against this backdrop, the project seeks to bridge the energy gap by providing off-grid solar solutions to underserved communities.
The project's initial focus is on introducing an entry-level solar lantern, a user-friendly and affordable solution. This solar lantern harnesses the power of the sun to provide free energy, making it ideal for household and outdoor lighting. Whether for home use, nighttime study sessions, or outdoor business activities, this solar lantern will transform the lives of individuals and communities.
Funds raised on this platform would enable us provide five (5) solar lanterns to a household of at least five people in one of the most deprived communities in Freetown.
We would like to use this opportunity to say a very big thank you to all those who've donated their hard-earned cash to this cause, and we look forward to working with them closely as we strive to create more impact in the lives of our targeted communities.
