The lack of access to electricity in Sierra Leone poses a significant challenge to inclusive growth and sustainable development. In partnership with Intellico ECO, AID is embarking on a new project aimed at addressing this energy disparity by providing unique solutions for rural and energy-deprived areas. The project's focal point is the introduction of an entry-level solar lantern, a reliable and affordable off-grid solar solution, which will revolutionise the lives of individuals & communities
Access to affordable, reliable, and sustainable energy is essential for poverty reduction and achieving the country's sustainable goals. While urban areas in Sierra Leone have some access to the national grid, the quality of power delivery remains suboptimal, hindering business growth and innovation. However, it is the rural areas, where approximately 60% of Sierra Leoneans reside, that face the greatest energy challenges, impeding socio-economic development.
AID in partnership with IntellicoECO, aims to bridge the energy gap by providing off-grid solar solutions to underserved communities. The project's initial focus is on introducing an entry-level solar lantern, a user-friendly and affordable solution. This solar lantern harnesses the power of the sun to provide free energy, making it ideal for household & outdoor lighting. Whether for home use, nighttime study sessions, or outdoor activities, the solar lantern will transform lives & communities.
Introducing off-grid energy solutions to communities will alleviate the burden on the national grid & ensure that rural areas have the same level of energy access as their urban counterparts. This will enable these communities to catch up in terms of socioeconomic development, which was previously hindered by limited energy access. Through this project, individuals and communities will be introduced to the benefits of clean renewable energy, positively impacting their lives & the environment.
