End malaria, malnutrition, save a child in Nigeria

Access to professional healthcare services remains a challenge in Itamerin and over 10 adjoining villages in the suburb of the ancient city of Ibadan in Nigeria. The organization pitched at CAC Gilgal center Alaase igbooloyin Ibadan to implement a health outreach program which had over 80 adults and children in attendance.  The project which seeks to reduce the burden of malaria and malnutrition among the rural children, could not overlook the sufferings of the adults too, especially the women. The program features include but not limited to blood pressure checks, blood sugar screening, rapid testing for malaria and treatment, emergency interventions for dangerously high blood pressure, distribution of deworming pills for children etc.

The health outreach program was a huge success despite a heavy downpour on the day. Over 10 children who presented with symptoms of malaria were tested and treated. Also, a whole family was treated after 3 of their children tested positive for malaria parasite. Moreover, high blood pressure is not a joke in the area as several people were discovered. Those requiring emergency interventions were handled accordingly. The categories with mild to moderate hypertension were also counseled on importance of positive health-seeking habbit.

The first program of the year was a stitch in time for the people of this community in Ibadan. Part of this program is to diagnose and promptly respond to cases of hypertension which could otherwise lead to life threatening complications or death. Our team was alerted early in the year of the growing state of the ill-health of the people of Aleshin community. A community health outreach which entails blood sugar checks, blood pressure checks and health talks was implemented. The outcome made a positive impact as shown in our various test results. 

Mrs S.A is one of the beneficiaries, she had not measured her blood pressure for years. Luckily for her, she came to the program venue because she was sensing some strange feelings in her body. Her Blood pressure read 210/119mmhg. Emergency treatment was given, she was counseled and immediately taken to the hospital for expert treatment. We also intervened in other people with different health issues. No fewer than 110 people were in attendance. 

This project, though with a very meagre resources has been able to impact and put smiles on people more than expected. We are currently at a stage where we could barely move on with implementations due to lack of resources. Your gifts has enabled us to achieve immensely in this feat.
