The Basket Weaving Empowerment Initiative by goodcausefoundationug.org empowers women and youth in rural Uganda through practical handicraft skills, especially basket weaving and related crafts. Conducted in community-based workshop spaces under tents or shaded areas, participants learn to create colorful, high-quality woven baskets and handmade products using locally available materials.
The initiative focuses on skills development, entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and market access to help participants generate sustainable income and achieve greater economic independence. By combining traditional Ugandan weaving techniques with modern designs, the project preserves cultural heritage while creating products suitable for local and international markets.
The program also promotes environmental sustainability through the use of natural and recycled materials, while strengthening community collaboration and reducing unemployment among vulnerable women and youth.
Aligned with the mission of globalgiving.org, the initiative supports long-term community empowerment, poverty reduction, and sustainable livelihoods through grassroots, locally led solutions.
