Empowering Young Women Through Skills Training

In the heart of Ibadan, Nigeria, we embarked on a mission to transform the lives of young women through skills training. This project was more than just teaching—it was about restoring confidence, creating opportunities, and breaking cycles of poverty.

A young girl, for example. A 21-year-old who had dropped out of school due to financial hardship, she felt trapped by her circumstances. But through our training program, she learned tailoring and business management. Today, she runs a small but thriving fashion business, supporting herself and her family. Maryam is not just earning—she is dreaming again.

Over the past six months, we trained 100 young women in tailoring, hairdressing, catering, and digital skills. Each woman received hands-on training, mentorship, and startup kits to launch their businesses. Beyond technical skills, we nurtured leadership and financial literacy, ensuring they could sustain their ventures.

The impact is clear: 75% of our graduates have already started businesses or secured jobs. Families are experiencing financial relief, and communities are seeing a ripple effect of empowered women creating change.

The Free Skills Vocational Empowerment Program, held in Ibadan, was an initiative aimed at empowering young women by equipping them with essential vocational skills to promote self-reliance and financial independence. Organized as a community-driven initiative, the program focused on creating opportunities for women to break barriers and contribute meaningfully to their families and society.

The program inspired community impact, as attendees expressed intentions to share their knowledge with others, creating a ripple effect of empowerment. By providing entrepreneurship workshops, the initiative enhanced participants’ understanding of business development, enabling them to envision sustainable ventures. Networking opportunities forged meaningful connections among participants and trainers, fostering collaboration and support.
