Empowering Ugandan Girls With Knowledge
Introduction:
The "Empowering Ugandan Girls, Enriching Futures" campaign by Platform for the Needy (PLANE) aims to provide sexual education, reproductive health education, mentorship, and training to girls in Uganda. This initiative addresses critical issues such as teenage pregnancy, gender-based violence, and limited access to healthcare among young girls. Our goal is to impact 100 primary and secondary schools, reaching approximately 20,000 students with necessary resources and support.
What we’ve done:
On GlobalGiving we received one donation which we use with other resources to carry out our planned activities.
We were able to conduct four radio talkshows to create awareness and increase knowledge and access to healthcare services.
PLANE was also able to organize students’ dialogues and sexual education in eight secondary schools in Fort Portal Tourism city where the rate of HIV/AIDS and teenage pregnancies are high.
HIV prevalence in Fort Portal now stands at 14.8% which needs urgent interventions.
Challenges:
Despite our commitment to implementing the planned programs, PLANE is facing challenges in accessing resources. The freezing of support from the USA for people living with HIV and the withdrawal of support from a key donor, Madam Anna Varanya from Thailand after she lost her job, have significantly impacted our operations. These unforeseen circumstances have posed financial constraints on our organization, hindering our ability to reach out to rural communities in need.
Appeal:
PLANE appeals for continued support and partnership to enable us to carry out our activities effectively. We are open to collaboration in any form to overcome the current challenges and continue making a positive impact in the lives of Ugandan girls. Your continued support is crucial in ensuring the success of our programs and the well-being of the girls we serve.
