CCSD has launched our second iteration of the Empowering Syrian Civil Society program in the past four months. The ten participating civil society organizations from last year and twenty new CSOs have signed memoranda of understanding, officially launching the program. So far, our partners have conducted seven workshops on strategic planning, budget preparation, and project design, and small group mentoring sessions are also underway. “The subject of strategic planning is a very difficult subject, and in every aspect, I had many, many questions,” one participant said, “but at the end of this training, I can say that things have changed for the better.”
Participating CSOs are hard at work designing their localized interventions. Organizations who participated last year are building on lessons learned to design programs that complement or continue their prior work, while newer participants are exploring projects related to women’s empowerment, rehabilitating green and social spaces, and support for persons with disabilities, based on needs identified in their local communities.
Additionally, CCSD continues to explore resource opportunities and partnerships that will enhance the capacity of our participating CSOs and allow us to support more CSOs in the coming years.
