Over 252,066 refugees in Kakuma Refugee Camp face limited access to education and employment opportunities, leaving them trapped in cycles of poverty and dependency. Generation Aid is transforming this reality through the Digital Generation Jobs Hub and Tailoring & Dressmaking Craft Training. These programs provide refugees with vocational skills, digital literacy, and access to remote work opportunities, empowering them to achieve economic independence and integrate into the global economy.
Many refugees in Kakuma camp are youth with limited access to education and employment. Each year, 2,500 refugee youth graduate from secondary school, but only 5% secure scholarships for tertiary education. The rest face unemployment, idleness, and hopelessness, often leading to unconstructive practices like crime, early marriages, and forced labor. Refugees also lack access to digital tools, stable internet, and vocational training, which are critical for participating in the modern economy.
The Solution is to provide refugees in Kakuma with access to the Digital Generation Jobs Hub, offering digital skills training, remote work opportunities, and a supportive workspace, alongside Tailoring & Dressmaking Craft Training to equip them with vocational skills and entrepreneurship knowledge, creating pathways to economic independence and self-reliance. By combining digital skills with vocational training, we are creating multiple pathways for refugees to achieve self-reliance.
This project is to break the cycle of poverty and dependency for refugees, creating lasting change. By equipping them with skills for remote work and small businesses, we foster economic independence and reduce reliance on humanitarian aid. Participants will gain high-demand, transferable skills that open doors to employment and entrepreneurship. A strong, collaborative environment will drive peer-to-peer learning, combat isolation, and build resilient communities.
