The Empowering Refugee Women Through Small Business initiative has demonstrated significant impact despite challenges in fundraising. While we were unable to secure donations directly through the GlobalGiving platform, the project’s visibility inspired individual donors to reach out to us independently. Through their generosity, we raised $3,225, which has been invested directly into refugee women’s enterprises.

Impact Achieved

  • 17 refugee women entrepreneurs supported with startup capital and training.
  • Majority of beneficiaries engaged in agro-enterprises such as poultry farming, vegetable cultivation, and goat rearing.
  • Women reported increased household food security and income stability.
  • The initiative fostered confidence, independence, and community leadership among participants.

Voices from the Field
One participant shared:

“Before this support, I struggled to provide for my children. With the seeds and goats I received, I now have food for my family and income from selling produce. I feel proud that I can stand on my own.”

Another woman reflected:

“This project gave me more than a business it gave me hope. I can now plan for my children’s education and dream of a better future.”

Broader Significance

  • The programme has strengthened resilience among refugee households, reducing reliance on aid.
  • Women entrepreneurs are becoming role models, inspiring others in the community to pursue self-reliance.
  • The initiative demonstrates that small investments can yield transformative outcomes in refugee settings.

Next Steps
We aim to expand support to more women, scaling agro-enterprises and diversifying into tailoring, crafts, and small trade. With additional donor support, we can reach 50 more women entrepreneurs, multiplying the impact across families and communities.

Conclusion
This project underscores the power of small business support as a pathway to dignity, independence, and long-term stability for refugee women. Every dollar invested directly changes lives, creating ripples of hope and resilience across the refugee community.
