March 14, 2020 is the day that everything changed. Wow, is it hard to believe that we have been navigating the pandemic for more than 3 years. As a result of the pandemic, we’re coping with a loss of learning time and mental and behavioral health concerns. The impacts will be long lasting.
This is the first year that students are back to full in-person learning. There is much joy in that and also recognition of the critical state of where students are at. Bonnie, our Community Health Educator, states “A negative impact of COVID is that students have lost valuable learning time. There is little mastery of indicators of the national curriculum benchmarks and students have not been exposed to the curriculum they should have been.” She adds “for example, there are children who are now in fourth grade and do not yet know or do not have knowledge of the topics they should have seen in first grade.”
Students need additional learning time to supplement and enrich what they’re learning in the classroom. Rising Minds is continuing to work to provide crucial programming to address physical, behavioral, and mental health needs. Our weekly enrichment classes are providing students with the support they need to thrive in school and out of school and empower them for a healthy futre.
