Empowering Girls with Sewing Machines
![]()
Dear Donors
Karitas Relief Mission continues to implement the Empowering Girls with Sewing Machines project, which aims to provide girls with practical tailoring and sewing skills that can help them become self-reliant and improve their future livelihoods.
Today, the project team visited the tailoring and training facilities to assess the classrooms and observe the current activities taking place. The visit provided an opportunity to meet with staff, trainers, and some of the girls who are interested in joining the skills-training program.
Activities Conducted
During the visit, we inspected the classroom where the girls will receive their tailoring training. The classroom has working space, tables, chairs, sewing machines, and other materials that can support practical learning.
We also observed girls practicing different tailoring activities, including measuring, arranging fabrics, cutting materials, and preparing clothes for sewing. Their participation demonstrated the interest and willingness of the girls to acquire practical skills.
The project team also held discussions with the staff and girls about the importance of vocational skills. Several girls expressed how eager they are to learn tailoring but explained that limited financial resources have prevented them from accessing such training opportunities.
Progress and Observations
The visit showed that there is a strong interest among girls to acquire sewing and tailoring skills. The existing training environment provides a foundation for the project, but additional sewing machines and materials are still needed so that more girls can participate effectively.
The project is targeting 156 girls, particularly those who have limited opportunities to access vocational training. By providing sewing machines and training, the project will enable the girls to develop skills that can later help them generate income through tailoring and small businesses.
Challenges
The main challenge remains the shortage of adequate sewing equipment and financial resources to accommodate all the girls who are interested in the program. Some girls are ready and willing to begin training but are unable to meet the costs associated with joining a vocational training program.
Next Steps
Karitas Relief Mission will continue mobilizing resources to provide additional sewing machines and the necessary training materials. We will also continue working with the school and trainers to ensure that the girls who are ready to learn can begin their training as soon as resources become available.
Conclusion
Today's visit was encouraging because it demonstrated the strong desire among girls to learn practical skills and build better futures for themselves. Their enthusiasm reminds us that providing a sewing machine is more than providing equipment—it is providing an opportunity for a girl to learn, earn an income, support her family, and become economically independent.
Karitas Relief Mission remains committed to empowering these girls through vocational training and appeals to well-wishers and partners to support the project so that more girls can benefit.
