Consultative Session with CSOs on Girls Education
Introduction
Education is not a privilege—it is a fundamental human right. At Good Thinkers Organization-Pakistan, we are committed to transforming this right into a reality for every girl in Pakistan, particularly in rural and urban slum areas where girls’ education is undervalued. Despite constitutional guarantees under Article 25-A of the Constitution of Pakistan and supporting legislation in provinces like in Punjab, millions of girls are still out of school. Our initiative, "Empower Girls Through Education in Pakistan," directly addresses this gap by advocating for systemic change, delivering grassroots solutions and ensuring implementation on Free and Compulsory Law.
Progress and Activities
During the reporting period, GTO-Pakistan undertook the following key actions:
1. Community Engagement and Awareness
- Organized 5 community sessions in rural and underserved areas of Kasur, engaging over 170 parents and community elders, especially focusing on the harmful consequences of child marriage and the benefits of girls’ education.
- Conducted interactive workshops for adolescent girls to educate them on their personal health and hygiene, rights, importance of education, and personal development.
2. Policy Advocacy
- Held multiple meetings with government line departments in Punjab to push for the effective implementation of the Free and Compulsory Education Act.
3. Capacity Building and Empowerment
- Initiated a capacity building session titled "Children Club Members Discussion Forum" in 3 schools, benefiting 45 girls through monthly leadership and confidence-building sessions.
- Facilitated digital literacy sessions for 20 adolescent girls to increase their access to learning resources and self-expression.
4. Consultative Session with Civil Society Organizations on Girls Education Prmotion
Good Thinkers Organization held detailed consultation session to ensure all girls access to quality education, as ensherined in Constitution of Pakistan and in Punjab Free and Compulsory Education Act. local NGOs participated in the session and they gave their very productive input. Participants finally suggested to hold regular meetings with Education Authorities and Human Rights Department. If state esnures the implementation on related laws, it would become very easy to enroll all out of school girls in schools.
5. Consultation with Special Education Department
Good Thinkers Organization conducted detailed consultation with special education department, as persons with disability are always ignored by the society and state. To ensure special girls enrollment into the Special Education Department Schools, GTO and Special Education Department jointly planned community awareness sessions. So, every girl, without any discrimination could be enrolled in the schools for education and empowerment.
