During this reporting period, the Omel Farm Hub Initiative (OFAH), a Social Enterprise of Friends of Children Circle (FOCC) Uganda, remained in its foundational and resource mobilization phase. While on-the-ground agricultural operations have not yet commenced, significant preparatory steps have been taken to ensure strong and sustainable implementation.
FOCC has focused on refining the project design, strengthening the social enterprise model, and aligning the initiative with long-term sustainability goals. The Omel Farm Hub is structured to integrate crop and livestock production, grain trading, farmer training, farm-to-school supply, and eco-tourism into one income-generating system that will gradually sustain FOCC’s core programs.
During this quarter, we engaged community leaders in Omel Subcounty to reaffirm land identification discussions and local support for the hub. Internal planning meetings were conducted to finalize the five-year implementation roadmap, budget projections, and phased development strategy. We also continued resource mobilization efforts through proposal submissions, donor outreach, and updating our GlobalGiving project page to reflect the refined standalone social enterprise model.
Importantly, FOCC continues building on its previous experience supporting 340 farmers in 2023 and 2024. Lessons learned from those interventions are informing the design of the structured 50-farmers-per-year training model that will guide OFAH implementation.
Challenges:
The primary challenge remains securing start-up capital for land acquisition and infrastructure development. As a grassroots organization operating fully through volunteers, delayed funding directly affects the pace of project launch.
Next Steps:
In the coming quarter, FOCC will prioritize securing land, mobilizing initial farm inputs, and preparing to recruit the first cohort of 50 farmers once minimum start-up funds are available. We will also continue expanding partnerships and local stakeholder engagement to ensure readiness for implementation.
We remain deeply grateful for the continued encouragement and visibility GlobalGiving provides. Though the initiative is still in its preparatory phase, the foundation being laid now is critical for long-term sustainability and impact.
Thank you for standing with us as we sow the seeds for a resilient and self-sustaining future in Omel.
